WATERLOO, IOWA (August 4, 2010) - CBE Group, a debt collection agency headquartered in Waterloo, has donated to Build Our Ballpark, a philanthropic organization dedicated to improving the lives of youth and helping them build critical life skills through baseball and softball.
The donation, totaling $3,756.00, was collected during the month of June through the company's 2010 Jeans for Charity program. Jeans for Charity is an optional program, allowing employees to make a weekly contribution to wear jeans each Wednesday. A committee comprised of employees chooses a charity each month to donate the money collected.
"CBE employees are passionate about giving back to our community and the Jeans for Charity program fuels this passion," said President and CEO of CBE Group, Tom Penaluna. "Each year we have a long list of employees who want to serve on the committee and be a part of selecting the charities."
"The committee has many charitable organizations to choose from," said Mark Scheel, a collector and member of the 2010 Jeans for Charity committee for CBE Group. "We research to see where the needs are and try to spread our donations around the community. Little League baseball was in full swing in June, so it was the perfect month to choose Build Our Ballpark."
"We're thrilled by this support. The generous contribution by the employees of CBE Group shows their commitment to the community and to local youth," said Bob Hellman Sr., Executive Director of Build Our Ballpark. "This donation will help get the ball rolling on future renovation projects."
Build Our Ballpark began with its pilot project, Hellman Field, a youth baseball and softball field built on the east side of Waterloo, near the Dr. Walter Cunningham School for Excellence. Following the success of Hellman Field, Build Our Ballpark took on the renovation of Tibbitts Complex, a complex of three baseball fields on West Donald Street in Waterloo. Build Our Ballpark is currently working to renovate Dane Complex, a facility located on the west side of Waterloo. These fields help fill a void in Waterloo, as the Leisure Services Department was previously nearly ten fields short of effectively scheduling youth baseball and softball.

About Build Our Ballpark
Created in 2008, Build Our Ballpark was the vision of Bob Hellman Sr., the founder and chairman of the board at Hellman, a marketing and advertising agency in Waterloo, Iowa. An avid baseball enthusiast, Hellman used a teamwork approach to give back to his favorite game by helping build a showcase ballpark - Hellman Field - in his hometown. From that teamwork, Build Our Ballpark was born. The organization is committed to providing the assistance and rallying the support needed to build new ballparks and/or improve existing ballparks to ensure kids have a quality place to play. By promoting teamwork, strengthening character, building pride and teaching life skills, Build Our Ballpark is rebuilding passion in America's pastime - one field at a time.
