CBE Employees Raise over $10,000 for Iowa Tornado Victims

WATERLOO, IA – During the kick off of The CBE Group’s (CBE) 75^th Anniversary Celebration in early 2008, CBE employees were challenged to give back to their community and “pay it forward” throughout the special anniversary year. When areas of Iowa (and home to a number of CBE employees) were hit by a tornado in May, employees came together in the true spirit of CBE’s giving back challenge. By June 30, CBE employees had pitched in $10,358.

Most of CBE’s donation went to the American Red Cross local Iowa disaster fund, along with helping employees directly affected by the tornado. The primary fundraiser involved a minimum donation to wear jeans to work the entire month of June.

Next up for CBE employees is raising money for Iowa flood victims during the month of July. In addition to the money raised for tornado and flood victims by employees, CBE will make a corporate contribution of $2,000 to the American Red Cross local Iowa disaster fund.

With the donations for Iowa tornado and flood victims, CBE and its employees are building on a long tradition of giving to local charities. CBE employees have the option to pay to wear jeans on Wednesdays, an initiative they call “jeans for charity”. In an average month, CBE employees donate over $5,000 to a designated charity. CBE also dedicates the month of October to the annual United Way campaign, donating over $38,000 to the Cedar Valley United Way in 2007.
