We have been involved in campus-based collections for over 30 years and our accounts include Perkins loans, institutional loans, and various accounts receivable. We serve a diverse group of clients consisting of more than 300 colleges and universities—those as large as 50,000 students and as small as 800 students.

Perkins Cohort Accounts: Your Priorities are our Priorities

Cohort default management is a high priority at CBE, given the U.S. Department of Education regulation changes resulting in cohort default rate calculation. We have developed a strategy to ensure our clients maintain a low default rate.

Accounts affecting the cohort default rate are segregated and worked by a separate collection team for intense follow-up and resolution. When corresponding with a student borrower, CBE attempts to achieve payment in full; six consecutive monthly payments; or deferment, cancellation, or forbearance (as applicable).

  • Default Aversion- Student Loan Counseling Services (SLCS)

    Student Loan Counseling Service, Inc. (SLCS), a wholly owned subsidiary of CBE, is the student loan industry’s recognized leader in default aversion counseling programs. Anchored by our professional and personal commitment to helping students repay their loans and avoid the unfortunate experience of default, SLCS helps keep default rates at historically low levels.

  • Primary Bad Debt Collection

    During the prime stage of debt recovery, CBE makes the first attempt to collect defaulted student loans and/or delinquent accounts receivable by a third-party using client-specific techniquest designed to optimize work strategies for quick recovery

  • Secondary Bad Debt Collection

    CBE offers a second level of debt collection for loans and/or accounts that have already been placed with a third party for collection. CBE deploys different collection techniques in order to realize continued recovery results 

  • Tertiary Bad Debt Collection

    Even the most difficult to recover accounts can be liquidated with strategies specific to tertiary placement levels

LITIGATION

When legal action is necessary, a student account qualifies to be litigated and the client has provided written authority, CBE’s Litigation Division utilizes a network of attorneys to take the next step in debt recovery
